Keeping the Blooms Coming: Balances Local & Imported Flowers

Flowers are in Harrys DNA. For more than 30 years, Harry Papadopoulos and his family have been bringing the best blooms to Sydney’s florists, event stylists, and retailers. While Australia imports millions of dollars’ worth of flowers every year—from Ecuador, Colombia, Kenya, and beyond. Harry’s has always focused on giving customers exactly what they need, whether it’s locally grown or hand-selected from the world’s finest farms.

As featured in ABC News, about 70% of the flowers sold by Harry’s Wholesale Nursery are imported. “What we import are only the flowers that our clients demand and that aren’t available locally or interstate in Australia,” Harry explains. His son Steven adds, “Our main line is South American roses, and their variety range is almost endless, and the quality is very high. They produce all year round, so you can get the same exact flower every day of the year.”

Despite the challenges of importing, including biosecurity regulations, freight costs, and quarantine, Harry’s has built a reputation for reliability, quality, and understanding exactly what florists want. At the same time, the family remains committed to supporting local growers whenever possible, balancing imported blooms with beautiful Australian flowers to give customers the very best of both worlds.

This dedication and flexibility are why florists and event stylists across NSW and beyond trust Harry’s to keep their shops and events blooming, no matter the season.
